Kids to Kangaroos

On Tuesday 5th May, students from Orange HS and Canobolas Technology HS participated in the 'Kids to Kangaroos Coaching Clinic'.

The Girri Girri students proudly represented the Sports Academy by assisting the NRL City and Country players with skills and drills in rugby league and ran hydration station.

After the clinic, students were able to chat and gather autographs from the players.

GGSA Coordinators Conference

In May, the GGSA coordinators met in Orange for a 2-day conference.

The conference involved a workshop with Geoff Munns from the University of Western Sydney 'School is for me. It is all about MeE! Motivation and Engagement'.

Coodinators also worked with Donna Stanley, a Mental Health First Aid instructor.


Forbes and Orange Schools join the Academy

Forbes High School and Orange High School are now part of the Girri Girri Sports Academy. These schools join Cowra High, Bourke High, Brewarrina Central, Condobolin High, Denison College -Kelso and Bathurst Campuses and Canobolas Rural Rechnology High School.
We also welcome new coordinators Scott Carpenter (Cowra), Daniel West (Forbes), Sarah Blades (Condobolin) and welcome back in 2009 Nathan Williams and Angela Cohen (Bourke), Rick Black (Brewarrina) and Nathan Rollinson (Bathurst and Orange).
The year ahead looks to be very exciting for members of the academy with the first major event to be held at Lake Burrendong.

Anniversary Breakfast

Over seventy five community members attended a breakfast at Canobolas Rural Technology High to mark the anniversary of the national apology. The breakfast was hosted by Girri Girri Sports Academy and DEEWR.
The event was organised as part of Reconciliation Australia’s acknowledgement of the National Apology twelve months on.
Guest speakers included Joe Moore who reflected on the past twelve months and the need for change to happen as a result of the national apology.
Pam Ryan School Education Director, Orange said, “For the ongoing process of reconciliation it is so important that young people understand their role and how to be part of it”.

The Gecko Café, one of the nine top restaurants/cafes in Bourke, was crowded with Girri Girri Women for a Working Lunch on Thursday, 22 May 2008. Girri Girri Academy Members attending Bourke High School, including Shauna McKellar, Janice Rose, Aleisha Wright, Courtney Kelly, Elizabeth (Liz) Mann and Tori Towney, welcomed Doreen Conroy and Jennifer Short to Bourke.
