“It’s just the VIBE of the thing”

On Wednesday 27th May, 48 students from Condobolin High travelled to Coonamble for the annual Vibe Alive Festival.

The group met at 5.30am, on the way to VIBE we were all very excited. Our first stop was Dubbo, Maccas for breakfast and some of the students had Subway, we had to be back on the bus by 9am.

It was very loud on the bus, but everyone was having fun by 11am we had arrived, we went to Coonamble High School and we unpacked and went straight to the showground.

When we got to VIBE, we did activities like heath and career workshops, or “My culture” where the boys could play the ‘dig’ or the girls could make jewellery.

After lunch we did the ‘Good Vibrations' activity, where students could sing, dance or perform. Maddy was picked as judges’ choice in this activity.

After we went back to the hall for a shower and Chinese food for dinner we got ready for the concert.

The group walked back to the showground where we partied all night and had a ball. We saw heaps of contestants from SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE and they showed off their moves.

At this concert a group of our students entertained a crowd of 3000 people with a dance performance to “Apple Bottoms Jeans”. The MC for the night called them our own Pussy Cat Dolls. The group of seven students were Stephanie Gardner (12), Kimberly Solomon (9) Latoya Kirby, Kadisha Brandy (8) Julia Wighton, Keona Singh, and Latisha Powell (7).

Madison Staines (Yr 9) also sang at this concert and won the Good Vibrations competition with her performance of “Love Story” by Taylor Swift.

After an exciting night we went back to the hall which we were sharing with 5 other schools, after a while we all got to sleep.

The next day we woke up, it was cold and raining. We went to the showground- then the petrol station for breakfast. The events started with the Vibe Cup which is a 100m sprint. Congratulations to Treigh Coe and Brandan Singh who came 1st and 2nd in this event.

The rest of the day was spent in more activities the students showed their creative side with the paint brush, in ‘Paint it up’ and learnt some dance moves.
After the closing ceremony we were all happy to see Mr Healy and our ‘Condo Bus’ once our bags were on board we started the trip home. After another stop at Dubbo we arrived back just before 9pm.

All students are to be congratulated on their effort and behaviour over the two days. ‘Vibe Alive’ is a great annual event which gets better each year.

A big thank you to all the teachers, parents and community members which helped organise this trip. A special Thank you to Neil Brandy, Casey, and Percy Knight at the Wiradurji Corporation.

A special assembly will be held at 9am Wednesday 25th June for Vibe Alive and Girri Girri all are welcome.
