Successful Credentials
Members from across the nine sites of Girri Girri Sports Academy converged on Lake Burrendong Sport & Recreation Centre this week with the one goal of gaining credentials.
The credentials on offer were vast and gave students many choices. The hardest part was choosing the strand to follow throughout the three day experience.
All workshops were well attended and students keenly participated. Courses included Country Rugby League coaching skills, NSW Touch Referee ticket, Sports Medicine Australia-Sports Prevention Course, St John’s Senior First Aid and NSW Surf Lifesaving Bronze Medallion. For the Year 10 students they had the option of commencing the Certificate 11 in Outdoor Recreation. These academy members completed Environmental Impact module and Canoeing Module which included camping out for two nights.
There was no rest in the evenings. With local artist Allan Shillingworth sharing his expertise and knowledge of Aboriginal art. Some beautiful pieces of art were created by members who attended this session. Others chose a night studying the stars and enjoying a campfire.
The camp ended on the final night with a great performance by the hip hop group Street Warriors.
As one member said, ‘this has been a great way to learn new things’.
