Lunch with Mentors in Bourke

The Gecko Café, one of the nine top restaurants/cafes in Bourke, was crowded with Girri Girri Women for a Working Lunch on Thursday, 22 May 2008. Girri Girri Academy Members attending Bourke High School, including Shauna McKellar, Janice Rose, Aleisha Wright, Courtney Kelly, Elizabeth (Liz) Mann and Tori Towney, welcomed Doreen Conroy and Jennifer Short to Bourke.
Girri Girri women occupied a large table extending the full depth of the Café. We checked out the blackboard menu and our attention was immediately drawn to a glaring spelling mistake – Ceasar (sic) Salad! We all knew that it should have been spelt C A E S A R! We lost confidence in the misspelt salad and so most of us decided to have a Chicken Wrap.

Shauna and Jennifer had very unflattering photos taken Jennifer attacking her wrap!Jennifer attacking her wrap!A wrap attacking ShaunaA wrap attacking Shaunaof them biting into their Chicken Wraps! Oh dear – not a pretty sight!

Whilst we were eating our meals, Joash Mann joined us for a few minutes. Joash had been passing by the Gecko Café. We had seen him on the footpath from our table (with the good view) and invited him inside! As a sportsman who has already graduated from the Girri Girri Sports Academy, Joash was happy to say hello to current Academy Members.

We are all looking forward to another opportunity when Girri Girri Woman can come together in Bourke. Mothers and Aunties will be specially invited to the next “Lunch with Mentors”.
