Video Links Girri Girri Sites
There was great excitement, surprise and interest when six Girri Girri sites were linked by video on Tuesday 19 February 2008.
Academy Members and Staff came together to meet up with sporting legend Preston Campbell. Preston was expected to link with the Academy from a site at Griffith University on the Gold Coast.
Each Girri Girri site had a question or two that they were going to put to Preston.
Members at the Bathurst site wanted Preston to talk about where he came from.
Canobolas site Members were interested to know what Preston used to get up to as a kid.
How he got his big break in footy was the question that the Academy members from Bourke wanted to ask Preston.
We were told that Preston was on his way to the Video Conference Room straight from training. Cowra members wanted to know if today was a typical day for a professional athlete.
Academy Members at the Brewarrina Central site were keen to ask Preston if his professional commitments meant that he had little time at home.
The question session was going to be rounded off by Academy Members from the Condobolin site. They wanted to know what Preston ate and drank to maintain health and fitness.
Reporters from Channel 9 and Impaja were waiting for Preston to arrive at the Griffith University Video Conference site.
During the time that we all waited for Preston to arrive we became familiar with the technology. We made sure that we could all see the video screen and that we were speaking loudly and clearly enough for our questions to be heard throughout the video system.
We said hello to each other and welcomed the newest members to Girri Girri Sports Academy. We discovered that whatever site was speaking at a particular time filled the big picture on the video screen. This meant that we could always see who was speaking.
Unfortunately Preston got lost on the campus of Griffith University and didn't find the Video Conference site. We really felt disappointed about not meeting one of our great sporting heroes but maybe there'll be another chance to catch up with Preston in the future. We hope so!
